About The Show

This show is directly inspired by one of my favorite podcasts, Hrishikesh Hirway’s Song Exploder, which looks at one song per episode, tears it apart, and explores how it was created by the musicians involved. As a lifelong nonfiction geek, I was intrigued by the idea of doing the same thing with works of longform nonfiction from newspapers, magazines, and digital publications.

In each episode, the podcast breaks down one notable nonfiction article, talking with the writer of the story about how they researched, reported, and put together their stories; how they chose what to include, and what they cut. We will dig into the process, decisions, and lessons learned about writing compelling nonfiction.
